Mary Jane was the daughter of Samuel McClure and his first wife, Margaret Watt, who died on September 21, 1844 and is probably buried in the Ward Cemetery, Allen County, Ohio near her husband, Samuel McClure. Margaret's parents were Thomas Watt and Mary Shields.

Mary Jane was the mother of 12 children: Nathaniel McClure Mumaugh (d 27 May 1864 t Picketts Mills, Dallas, Paulding Co, Georgia in Civil War), Flora Mumaugh Smith (1845-1936), Sarah Elizabeth Mumaugh Rayman (1846-1925), William P. Mumaugh (1847-1909), Margaret Ellen Mumaugh Crosby (1850-1933), Lopez Joseph Mumaugh (@1851-1893), Charles M. Mumaugh (1853-1917), Mary Alice Mumaugh (@1855-?), John Elden 'Joe' Mumaugh (1857-1894), and Morgan J. Mumaugh (1859-1888). It is likely that her 2 youngest sons, John Elden and Morgan J., are buried near her and Morgan in Woodland Cemetery, as they were originally buried in the old cemetery with Mary Jane. She was moved to Woodland in the 1890s but no records have been located to indicate their being moved.

From her obituary:
Mrs. Mumaugh was born in Champaign County, May 20, 1822, and came with her father Mr. McClure when he moved to Allen County, when she was but four years old. She was married to Morgan Mumaugh in Allen County, Ohio, November 10, 1842. They moved to this county on the 4th day of July 1850 and have resided here since that time. The deceased when but 16 years of age experienced religion and has always from that time to the day of her death been an exemplary member of the Methodist Church. She has raised a family of twelve children; seven boys and five girls, all of whom are now living except the eldest, who was killed in the army on the 27th day of May 1864.
