William "Bill" G. Barter, 92, of New Haven, died, Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. He retired in 1975 after 35 years as an engineer for Nickel Plate Railroad. The World War II U.S. Army Veteran was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church; 25 year member of New Haven Kiwanis (Hixson Award recipient); and a volunteer for the Crisis Pregnancy Center. He is survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, in 2001; stepson, Denny Nowels; and sisters, Juanita Boedeker and Evelyn Stalder. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at New Haven United Methodist Church, 630 E. Lincoln Hwy., New Haven, with calling one hour before service time. Calling also from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 Indiana Hwy. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorial to Kiwanis Club.
