James L. Cornwell, 73, of Port Orchard died Dec. 5, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Terre Haute, Ind., to Alan and Anna (Dickerson) Cornwell. He attended Roosevelt High School in East Chicago, Ind.
He married Priscilla J. Anderson on Jan. 19, 1951, in Hammond, Ind.
He was a retired first sergeant in the Marine Corps. He also was a deputy sheriff in Eugene, Ore., and a dispatcher for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He enjoyed camping and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Catherine Traywick of Kent and Candice Turrentine of Seattle; three brothers, John of Houston, Texas, and Paul and Charles, both of Lansing, Ill and a sister, Edna Vance of Munster; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Echterling; and a brother, Donald. Recently his brother Paul also passed away in Dec 2007.
A private service is planned. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. An online memorial can be viewed at www.rill.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
