Lieut. Col. Merryl C. Shaver, 3051 60th Avenue, has been awarded the Oak Leaf Cluster to the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the Japanese on Panay and Negross, Philippine Islands, from March 19, 1945, to September 2, 1945.

Graveside services were held today at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, for Col. Merryl C. Shaver, 56, Army reserve officer, attorney and a former long-time resident of Oakland. Colonel Shaver died June 9 in the hospital at Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii. He made his home in the islands for the past 10 years. Prior to going to Hawaii, the colonel lived at 3051 60th Ave., Oakland. He won the Bronze Star and an Oak Leaf Cluster while serving with the Army in the Pacific during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Oregon and the Blackstone Institute, Chicago. Colonel Shaver is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret L. Shaver; a sister, Mrs. Helen Wilson of Elkton, Ore., and a brother, Ralph Shaver of Los Angeles.
