Vangy Alice Murphy, 98, Holden, died Wednesday, Oct. 3 1990 at the home.
She was born May 4 1892 in Hickory Co. MO, the daughter of Joseph S. and Lottie (Allen) Shelten. On March 9 1920 she married John Wesley Murphy in Springfield, MO. He preceded her in death March 3, 1967.
Mrs. Murphy lived near LaTour MO from 1926 until 1955 when she moved to Holden. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church in Holden.
She is survived by two sons, James Henry and William "Bill" Murphy both of Kingsville; four daughters, Freda Marie Shipley of Drexel, Stella Whiteman, Kingsville; Mary McKay, Holden; Cletis Snyder, Pleasant Hill; 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Five brothers, four sisters and two great grandchildren preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Oct 6 at the First Christian Church, Holden, officiated by the Rev. Robert Hoffman. Musicians were organist Catherine Roberts and soloist Beverly Loveall sant "The Old Rugged Cross," and "One Day at a Time."
Pallbearers were Gary Murphy, Bruce Murphy, Jason Gudde, Martin Shipley, Larry Snyder, Dennis Snyder, Robert Strate and Wilburn Harris. Burial was in the Holden Cemetery.

Wes and Vangy spent their early married life at Persia Iowa, where their four oldest children were born. They moved back to MO. by train and lived at LaTour for several years before retiring to their home in Holden.
