OBITUARY: The Manti Messenger, Friday 12 July 1912:
GUY DALTON SUCCUMBS TO TUBERCULOSIS
Young Man Died in Manti Canyon, a Victim of the Dreaded White Plague.
Guy A. Dalton, son of Mrs. L. L. Dalton of this city, passed peacefully away in Manti Canyon Monday, after a long hard fight against consumption. The past year he has been able to do but little work and part of last winter he spent in California in hope of regaining his health. Last May he came to Manti and has since resided with his mother. He has felt that his only hope was to get into the mountains and he was therefore in high spirits when the start was made Monday morning. He enjoyed the ride and continued feeling fine till a few minutes before the end came, he remarked that he believed he was getting weaker. He was given a swallow of water, sank back to rest, and found – eternal rest.
Guy Dalton was born in Circleville Piute County April 24, 1876. He came to Manti with his mother in 1887, reaching here two days after the dedication of the Temple. He remained in this city until he was 21 years old when he entered the employ of the railroad as an engineer and has been with them ever since, 15 years. Five years ago he married Miss Emily Patten of this city. One child, a daughter, has been born to them.
While removed from the scenes of this life comparatively in his youth, it is a consolation to those left to mourn to feel that his life, though short, has been a triumph. He lived a life of love and duty to those dependent upon him and remained to the last, one of God's noblest beings, an honest man.
The funeral was held in this city Wednesday afternoon.
