Anton Joe Vanshur, 81, retired railroad man, died February 10, 1948 at the Dodge County Community Hospital in Fremont, Nebraska.

Anton Vanshur was born June 13, 1866 and lived in his native country for 22 years before coming to the United States. He was first married to Catherine Reese in 1890 and had four children: Rosa, Mabel Mary, Otto Claus, and Jesse John. They were divorced sometime after 1900 and Catherine and the four children moved to another state. He was married to Ida Catherina Gocken on Aug 2, 1907 in Omaha.

After living in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, they later moved to Platte River Junction north of Cedar Bluffs where he was employed as a pumper by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. After 31 years of railroad service, Mr. Vanshur retired and the couple returned to Cedar Bluffs.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his widow, Ida, 3 daughters, Rosa Brown (Alexander), Mabel Brown (Alfred), Mary Seiders (Paul) of Fremont, and five sons: Jesse John Mortensen, Otto Claus Mortensen, James Fred Vanshur of Bremerton, Wash., Harvey Anton Vanshur of Fremont, and William Robert Vanshur of Cedar Bluffs. He was preceded in death by a son, Earl Harry Vanshur, a granddaughter, Noma Lee Vanshur, and two brothers, John and Jim.
