ACHTERBERG, Ernest R., 83, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009 in Tulsa, OK. Born September 1, 1925 in Little Rock, AR to Reginald Ernest and Rosa (Schneyer) Achterberg. Employed with the
U. S. Department of Interior in Tulsa, OK from 1978-1991. Graduate of Mabelvale, AR High School and Missouri School of Mines with a degree in Mine Engineering in 1953. Received master's degree in 1971 from University of Arkansas in Civil Engineering. He was on the Oklahoma State Mining Commission serving as Chairman, Secretary or Vice-Chairman since 1991. He was in the U. S. Army Air Corp. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anna Jean Alexander. Survived by wife, Mollie; son, Milton Carl Achterberg and wife, Cheryl; daughter, Kay Webb; sister, Elsa Mann; grandsons, Steven Achterberg and Shane Achterberg; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Zane Achterberg. Visitation will be 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Moore's Southlawn. Service will be 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Asbury United Methodist Church (Mason Chapel). In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions be made to the Asbury Foundation at Asbury United Methodist and/or Gideon International.
