A number of researchers in Ancestry Family Trees show his mother was Eliza Dorothy Hewitt, first wife of James Hiram Chandler. In reviewing records we found that Eliza Dorothy Hewitt Chandler and James Hiram Chandler were divorced between 1890 and 1895. The 1900 U.S. Census, for Mineral, Washington County, Idaho shows that Eliza remarried William Roberts about 1895 and had a 2 year old daughter Nellie L. Roberts born in 1897. The Birth Certificate for Nellie Lois Roberts shows she was born 17 July 1897 in Weiser, Washington County, Idaho. Her parents were William Louis Roberts and Eliza Dorothy Hewitt. The Birth Certificate shows the mother, Eliza had 6 children and 4 living.

James Hiram Chandler married his second wife Ruby Matilda Hathaway on 16 October 1898 in Union, Oregon. They had a daughter, Wilma Chandler born 1899. The Birth Certificate for Wilma Grace Chandler shows she was born 19 October 1899 in Carson, Baker County, Oregon. Her parents are shown as James Hiram Chandler and Ruby Matilda Hathaway. The Birth Certificate for Wilma, shows Ruby had 1 child now living.

Since Eliza Dorothy Hewitt Roberts' daughter, Nellie Lois Roberts was born 17 July 1897 Eliza could not be the mother of baby Elmer Chandler born 1897. It is possible that baby Elmer Chandler's mother was either Ruby Matilda Hathaway or else James Hiram Chandler had an unknown spouse?
