Rose N. Smith, 93, of Waymart, died Wednesday at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart. She was married for more than 36 years to Glenn Smith, who died in 1973.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Ezra and Pearl Dunn LeVan. As a young girl, she lived in Montgomery and graduated from Montgomery High School. After she married, she moved to Clinton Township, where she raised her family and helped her husband on their farm. Before retirement, she was employed at Ladore Lodge as a housekeeper and laundress. Rose was a dedicated, 72-year member of the South Clinton Baptist Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She taught Sunday school for many years and was assistant church treasurer. A member of the Young Republicans, she also assisted at the polls on voting days. She loved gardening, crafts and bird-watching, especially the hummingbirds.
Rose was devoted to her family and was loved very much by all who knew her.
Surviving are three daughters, Jacquelyn Bunting and husband, Paul, Florida; Glenna Short and husband, Myron, Waymart; and Dianne Lukas and husband, James, Indiana; two sisters, Doris Bastian, Muncy; and Geneva Hoover, Montgomery; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson and Kenneth LeVan; and a sister, Reba Becht.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Jenkins Funeral Home, 269 Belmont St., Waymart, with the Rev. Rand Kizer, pastor of the South Clinton Baptist Church, officiating. Interment, Canaan Corners Cemetery.
