Sue T. Elish, 82, of Canonsburg, died Friday, Jun. 8, 2001, following complications related to pancreatic cancer.
She retired from Mayview State Hospital and also was the local registrar for the commonwealth of Pennsylvania for many years.
Mrs. Elish was very active in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church of Canonsburg, where she was a lector, a member of the Women's Guild and the Christian Mothers, as well as a former member of the parish council.
She also was a longtime member of Jefferson College Historical Society of Canonsburg.
Mrs. Elish traveled and wrote extensively. She and her husband, Victor, criss-crossed the United States countless times before setting their sights on Europe. There they visited their homelands of Poland and Yugoslavia.
After her husband's death in 1985, Mrs. Elish traveled to Russia, Poland, Germany, Israel, England and Italy, where she had an audience with the pope. She maintained pen-pal relationships with several of her overseas friends for decades.
Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Durbin of Rohrersville, Md.; six sons, Victor Elish of Peoria, Ariz., George Elish of Cecil, Walter Elish of Presque Isle, Maine, Vincent Elish of Fairfax, Va., Kristin Elish of Frederick, Md., and Philip Elish of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Jason, Christina, Jennifer, Amanda, Anne and Paul Elish; a sister, Clara Fortunato of Scott; and two brothers, John Fisher of Strabane and Raymond Fisher of West Mifflin.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are four sisters, Verna, Martha and Ann Fisher and Barbara Voiner; and three brothers, Edmond, Albert and Walter.
