B. G. "Ben" Coggin Jr., 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 5, 2005, after an extended illness. He was born on August 2, 1926, of the late Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Coggin Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Nettleton and married his high school sweetheart, Jenith "Gee" McCay. A longtime deacon and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Nettleton, he was a church clerk, training union secretary and a Sunday School teacher for many years.

He was a graduate of Nettleton High School and Mississippi State University where he received a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. He was a member of the Society of American Military Engineers. He was also a member of the Mississippi State Bulldog Club and was honored by the creation of the B.G. Coggin Jr. Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund. He was also named a Distinguished Engineering Fellow by the College of Engineering of Mississippi State University in 1991.

As one of the original partners of Cook Coggin Engineers, Inc., where he worked until his death, Ben Coggin served as County Engineer for many counties, including Lee, Alcorn, Tippah, Tishomingo and Benton Counties. He was also the city engineer for the town of Nettleton for many years.

Ben Coggin was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Lions Club, an Eagle Scout and the Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop number 7. He served as President of the Nettleton School Board for 20 years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed raising his beloved beagles. He was a faithful husband, loving father, devoted grandfather and great-grandfather. To many he was known as Mr. Ben, but to his grandchildren he was "Daddy Ben." He spent his life in service to his church, community and family. The town of Nettleton recently honored him with a plaque because of his love and devotion to his community. Thank you, Daddy Ben, for showing us the most important things in live: a strong faith in God and a great love for family. We will miss you very much.

Services were held at the Nettleton First Baptist Church with Dr. Keith Dowden, the Rev. Bill Smith, the Rev. Bendon Ginn and the Rev. George Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Nettleton Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Nettleton was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife "Gee" McCay Coggin of Nettleton; five children, Kaye Dabbs and her husband, Tommy, of Nettleton, Peggy Geno and her husband, Greg, of Booneville; B.G. Coggin III and his wife, Mary, of Nettleton, Lisa Neal and her husband, Carson, of Plantersville, and David Coggin of Nettleton; 14 grandchildren, Tommy Ray Dabbs, Dee Dee Hamblin, Mary Margaret Wade, John Dabbs, Staci Dabbs, Seven Dabbs, Terrance Geno, Brianna Geno, B.G.
