Funeral services were conducted from St. Mark's church on Friday, August 18, 1944, for Mrs. John Ermels, Jr., who passed away on Monday, August 14. Rev. H.O. Rhode officiated at the services with Anderson Funeral Home conducting. Interment was in Bloomfield cemetery.
The departed wife and mother, Mrs. Helen Marie Ermels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Kolessa was born February 6, 1916, at Bloomfield, Nebraska. She was baptized on September 3, 1916, with her aunts, Mrs. August Boll, Mrs. Mathilde Schuett and Carole Heisler as sponsors. She grew to young womanhood in this community and was confirmed on March 20, 1932 with a class of 18 at St. Mark's Lutheran church.
On June 29, 1936, she became the bride of John Ermels at St. Mark's church with Pastor M. Schroeder officiating. Louise Ermels and Edwin Ermels served as witnesses. To this happy union were born two children, Shirley Ann and Richard John. The departed had enjoyed good health until a year ago when the first signs of her ailment appeared. The condition gradually grew more alarming, and all medical care was in vain. She was taken to a Yankton hospital on August 13, where she passed away on Monday, August 14. She had reached an age of only 28 years, six months and eight days.
She leaves to mourn, her husband, John Ermels, her two children, Shirley Ann and Richard John; her parents Mr. and Mrs. E. Kolessa, paternal grandmother, Mrs. J. Kolessa, maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Ferguson; her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Ermels, Sr.; her brothers, John Melvin, Raymond and William; her sisters, Mrs. Doris Sage and Mrs. Loretta Skalberg, besides a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors.
St. Mark's church also loses a fine Christian member, who was active in church school work, Luther League, and above all in the various choirs. She was also an active and valued member of the Women's Missionary society. Memorial wreaths for Tabitha Home were given in her name to the amount of $45. The Monitor joins in expression of its sincere sympathy to the family in the loss of its loved one.
