Wilma Jean Veigle, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview. She was the daughter of Howard & Ida (McGil) Veigle, born and raised in Lilly and has lived there most of her life. During her professional days in nursing, she lived in Johnstown. Jean is survived by several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She also is survived by close friends: the Rev. T.M. Talbot-Moses and husband, William H. Moses. Jean was pre-deceased by parents and siblings: Howard, James and Robert. Jean was raised by her aunt and uncle, Victor & Katherine Smith of Lilly, who also pre-deceased her. Jean was a former member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Lilly, where she was an active member and served on the church council and altar guild and was a member and treasurer of the church's Women of the ELCA organization. She also was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Duncansville. Jean was a 1946 graduate of Mount Aloysius High School and went to Conemaugh Memorial Hospital School of Nursing for training as a registered nurse. Graduating from nursing school in 1950, Jean worked 12 years at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital and for 25 years at Hiram G. Andrews Rehabilitation Hospital, Johnstown. After 37 years of nursing, Jean retired in 1985. For many years, Jean served on the board of directors for the First National Bank of Lilly, where she most recently served as board president. Jean was both an avid golfer and bowler, having received many trophies and prizes in each sport. Jean was a dog lover and loved her special friends, Maxx Fuzzy and Sparkle. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Sorge Funeral Home, 422 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg, and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1200 Fourth Ave., Duncansville, where a celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment, Lillydale Cemetery, Lilly. In lieu of flowers, Jean would prefer donations be sent to Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1200 Fourth Ave., Duncansville, or Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1835 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA. Jean spent her life serving, loving and caring for others. That was her great legacy to the world. She now celebrates life eternal in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
