Ralford Quitman "Ralph" Davis Sr., 85, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born on February 18, 1923, in Guntown to George Henry and Viola Hamm Davis. He had lived in Nesbit and the past 25 years in Amory. He married Clarice Wayne Michael, who died in 1961. He married Juanita Rosebud Stephens on November 2, 1962, in Memphis, Tenn., who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II as a gunner?s mate on the USS Hornet. He was a retired mechanic from the Eugene D. Wilson Company in Memphis, Tenn., and a member of the Carolina Baptist Church. He was a family man, born again Christian, and a loving husband and father. He enjoyed fishing and wrestling and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Services were at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Billy McBrunch and Bro. Bobby Wilbanks officiating. Burial was in Nettleton Cemetery (also known as Mullins Cemetery) in Nettleton.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Juanita Rosebud Stephens Davis of Amory; four sons, Robert Harold Davis of Diamond Head, Ralford Davis Jr. (Bernice) of Jamestown, Tenn., James Dykes Jr. (Shelby) and Robert W. Dykes (Annette), both of Amory; two daughters, Shelby Dykes (Jimmy) of Amory and Dianne Englehardt (William) of Nettleton; one sister, Hazel Bentley of Russelville, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one daughter, Valeria Davis Dykes; three brothers; five sisters; one grandson, William Englehardt Jr.

Pallbearers were Brad Ivy, Mitch Wilbanks, Dennis Benson, Johnny Posey, Louis Corbell and Sonny Rooks.
