Marie E. Leonhard, age 73, of Sheboygan and formerly of Kiel died peacefully Wednesday morning, March 18, 2009 at St. Nicholas Hospital after a brief illness. She was the former Marie Bohne, born October 10, 1935 in the Town of Meeme, daughter of the late Henry & Ella (Simonsmeier) Bohne. On February 16, 1957 Marie married Gerald H. Leonhard in the rectory of St. Wendel Catholic Church. Marie was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Schwarzwald where she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and taught Sunday school. She also was a 50 year member of the Cleveland VFW Auxiliary, Post 8974, presiding as President, and in 1968 was President of the 8th District VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, music and was an avid collector of salt & pepper shakers. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Gerald "Jerry" of Sheboygan, three daughters: Terese (Mike Birch) Leonhard, Fort Atkinson, Gail (Rex) Nelson, Brown Deer, Karla (Mark) Ashenhurst, New Berlin, honorary AFS daughter, Caroline Knott, South Africa and four grandchildren, Andrew Nelson, Erin & Colin Ashenhurst & Kera Birch. She is further survived by one sister, Dorothy (William) Mueller, Manitowoc, three brothers, Eugene (Audrey) Bohne, Prescott, AZ, Henry (Arlene) Bohne, Parker, CO, Donald (Judy) Bohne, Manitowoc, four sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Thompson, Bernice (Louis) Erlicher & Julie (Jim) Schwinn, all of Sheboygan, Verla Leonhard, Florida, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by one sister, Laverne Zink, and three brothers-in-law, Howard Zink, Jesse Thompson & Charles Leonhard. Funeral services for Marie will be held Monday, March 23, 2009 at St. John's United Church of Christ with Rev. Rebecca Johnston, pastor, officiating. Cleveland Auxiliary Post 8974 will conduct memorial services at the church. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
