Kirk Koepsel, 47, of Sheridan passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2007, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Kirk was born on April 23, 1959, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Erwin and Nancy Diamond Koepsel. Kirk graduated from high school in Evergreen, Colorado and received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, and his Master's Degree in Range Management from North Dakota State. He has worked for the Sierra Club in Sheridan as a Senior Regional Representative in environmental conservation for the past 17 years.

Kirk married Karen Walmsley on November 12, 1994, in Sheridan and they have one daughter, Katya Lee. He loved spending time with his daughter, teaching others about nature and natural habitat preservation and leading family oriented backpacking trips for the Sierra Club. He also enjoyed playing ice hockey, hunting, skiing, camping, backpacking, politics, gardening, walking the dog, scuba diving, and foreign travel. His life was a continual adventure and he lived it to the fullest. Kirk was a member of the Lions Club, Sierra Club, Phi Beta Kappa, active in the Big Brothers Program, and he served in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica.

Kirk is survived by his wife, Karen Walmsley; his daughter, Katya, his parents, Erwin and Nancy Koepsel, his sister, Krysti Klueber and his brothers Marc Koepsel and James Koepsel.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Kane Funeral Home. Services will be Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at 2:00 pm at the Episcopal Church with Father David Duprey officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
