Addie Andrews was born in Texas but came to Oklahoma Territory as a nine year old. She remembered dangling her feet off the wagon when they came across the Red River. The family camped out and took shelter under the wagon when the weather turned bad.
She and her sister Della were said to pick cotton all day and dance all night. They had to slip out as their father would not have approved.
At age 15 she married Ben McElhaney. They had eight children together. She was remembered for her kind heartedness and great cooking abilities.
Her children were Lottie, Ben Jr., Lucile, Ray, Robbie, Deaune, J.D. and Dorothy.
She died at age forty seven, leaving three children still at home. It was a big loss for them all.
Her children cherished her memory very deeply.
