Karen Warner Smith

Karen Warner Smith, 60, of Earlysville, died suddenly Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born September, 17, 1948, in Ashland, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Louise Q. Warner.

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Oscar W. "Buddy" Smith Jr., her devoted daughter, Alyson, one grandson, her loving son, Michael and a loving stepson, Oscar.

Karen moved to Charlottesville with her parents in the mid-1960's. She attended Lane High School and stayed in Charlottesville after graduating. Among other jobs, she owned The Hazel Eastham Shop in Barracks Road Shopping Center.

Karen was an extremely generous and supportive person to all who knew her. She loved her family dearly and adored her new role as a grandmother. She loved music, dancing, attending University of Virginia football games and especially photography through which she gained the affectionate nickname "Karen Kodak."

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home, 201 N. First Street, Charlottesville, Virginia. Interment followed the service at the cemetery of Church of Our Saviour on Rio Road in Charlottesville. The Reverend Paula Kettlewell presided over the services.
