Mildred Leona Baier, 92, of Chatfield, died Thursday (April 30, 2009) at the Chosen Valley Care Center, where she had resided since June 2006.
She was born Dec. 3, 1916, in Spring Valley, to Elwin and Verna (Davidson) Drinkall. She attended rural Spring Valley schools for eight grades and at age 16 moved to Chatfield, where she did in-home care and housekeeping for an elderly woman. On July 20, 1938, she married Louie A. Baier Jr. in Preston; Mr. Baier died in April 1990.
Following her marriage, Mrs. Baier lived on a farm west of Chatfield until moving into an apartment in Chatfield in 2003. She then moved to the care center in 2006.
She was a farm housewife and a part of the St. Paul Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. She also volunteered at the Chosen Valley Care Center and enjoyed sewing quilts for her family and church. Her hobbies included crocheting, ceramics, and gardening and she loved taking part in activities at the care center.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth of Zumbrota; two daughters, Donna (Merlin) Cramer of Chatfield and Verna (Jim) Thieke of Elgin; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lyle Drinkall of Chatfield; a half brother, George Drinkall of Phillipsburg, Mo.; and a half sister, Shirley Lee of Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, a half brother and a half sister.
Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church.
The family prefers memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Chosen Valley Care Center.
