ANDERSON, John C. – {El Paso, Texas Oct. 6, 1890} My father, John C. Anderson, was born in Washington county, Ark., March 9th, 1832. When he was five years of age his father moved to Missouri where he was raised and lived until the beginning of the late war. He married my mothers, Nancy A. Coffelt, Aug. 26th, 1856 with whom he lived until Aug. 26th, 1869 when death claimed her. They were living then in Benton county, Ark. where they had lived since the war. There were born to them five children. All except one are living. He as married again in 1870 to Sarah C. Brown. There were born to them two children, one of whom, a daughter, is living. In 1878 his health beginning to fail he came West and settled in Arizona. About a year ago his health began to fail. That dread disease, consumption, had taken root in his system. It began its fatal work in earnest last January when he took lagrippe. He partially recovered but it kept up its deadly effects until Sept. 29th, when death came to his relief. His sufferings were very great but he born them with patience and fortitude and was very anxious for the end to come. After the war he professed faith in Christ and joined the M.E. Church, South. He had not been in the church since coming West but was ready to meet Christ with a smile when he crossed over the river. I was alone with him when he passed into that haven of rest and the only relatives to follow him to his last resting place. His remains were interred in the Concordia cemetery Sept. 29th, 1890. Robert W. Anderson. [Benton County Democrat - Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas - October 23, 1890]
