Kenneth D. Powell, 77, of 411 East Walnut Street, Argos, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 6:21 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana.

Kenneth was born on May 17, 1931, in Macy, Indiana, to Glenn and Loda (Dowd) Powell. Kenneth and Betty Klingerman were united in marriage on November 6, 1949, and had been married for almost 60 years.

Kenneth was very active in his community. He was an Argos E.M.T. and a fireman. He served on the board of trustees at 1st Source Bank. He was a township trustee and served as the Clerk-Treasurer for the town of Argos. In 1999 Kenneth received the Argos Alumni Honoree Award. He was the sexton for the Maxinkuckee I.O.O.F. Cemetery, the Jordan Cemetery, and the Maple Grove Cemetery. He served on the Marshall County Tourism Board and was a past member of the Masonic Lodge. Kenneth was a member of the Maxinkuckee I.O.O.F. Lodge #373, Argos United Methodist Church, and the Lions Club, in Argos.

Kenneth was a distributor for Wearly Monuments. He had worked in the business office of Divine Heart Seminary, in Donaldson, Indiana. Kenneth and Betty were the former owners of the Argos News Stand. He also prepared income taxes for other people. He enjoyed going fishing in upper Michigan and loved to go antiquing. He was and avid mushroom hunter and liked to play euchre. Kenneth loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.


Kenneth is survived by wife, Betty; their daughters Kennetta (Dick) Smith of Argos and Sue (Mike) Trump of Argos; his grandsons, Mike (Sherry) Smith, Matt (Dianne) Smith, and Jason (Amber) Trump; his great-grandchildren, Kyle, Meagan, Monica, Zachery, Matthew, Alyssa, Breanna, Isaiah, Kourtney, Kylie, and Shauna; and his great-grand dog Einstein; his sister, Priscilla Burkett of Argos; his brother, Cecil (Phyllis) Powell of New Castle, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the Argos United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Walker officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Argos.

The time of visitation, for family and friends, will be on Monday, May 4, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Argos United Methodist Church, 540 North Michigan Street, Argos, Indiana. There will be a Lodge service on Monday, at 8:00 p.m. at the church, presented by the Maxinkuckee I.O.O.F. Lodge #373, in honor of Kenneth.

The VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, is handling the arrangements.
