Joseph S. Allen, 60, died at his home in Winnfield Wednesday evening at 9 o'clock after an illness of seven weeks. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Winnfield Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock with Claude Brock, minister, preaching the sermon.

Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Route 2, Winnfield.

Mr. Allen was born in Natchitoches, March 6, 1884. He resided in Winn Parish for 35 years and was a farmer until a few years ago when he retired because of ill health.

At one time he was a member of the Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Joe S. Allen, of Winnfield; seven sons, Jack, Oree, Frank, and O. K., of Winnfield; Theo Allen of the U.S. Army in India; Joseph C. Allen of the U.S. Marines in the South Pacific; one daughter, Vivian, of Winnfield; two sisters and one brother.
