Daniel Knox Bush was born 7 Aug 1844 in Green Twp. Mahoning County, Ohio, to Lewis and Susannah (Coy) Bush. Their children: Daniel, John D., Mary Barbara, Aaron Wesley, Thomas L., Salathiel J., and Cyrus B.

The Bush family was among the earliest ones in what was Columbiana County, Ohio now Mahoning County arriving around 1819 and they spend most of their lives in the Green/Greenford area. He was a descendent of "Little John" Bush.

Daniel married Mary Cool daughter of Jacob and Susannah (Roller) Cool, on 25 Sept 1866 in Mahoning County. They had six children: Charlotte May (d.1873), Edwin, William, Anna Marcella (d. 1882), Orville and Herbert. He was a 1st Sergeant in the Civil War, serving with the 125 Ohio Voluntary Inf., Co. A. He practiced law as a pension attorney.

Following the death of Susannah, he married second wife Mary Noonan. They had a son, Frank Daniel.
