Dick R. Howell Sr. 75, of 395 E. 16th S., died Friday, May 1, 2009, at home.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4, at Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque American Legion Post 6. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St.

He was born on Aug. 1, 1933, in Dubuque, son of Glen and Eunice (Duage) Howell. He married Rosemary Fox on April 27, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque.

He served in the Army.

Dick was employed at Loras College in the maintenance department and at Permar Security.

Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Howell, of Dubuque; a son, Dick (Connie) Howell Jr., of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; two daughters, Neilda Hernandez and Mary (Brent) Leick, both of Dubuque; a special grandchild, Adam Hurtig, who lived all his life with Dick and Rosemary; his other grandchildren, Chris Howell, Nick Howell, Mat Howell, Stephanie Howell, Liz Howell, Robbie Howell, Craig Howell, Wayne Gilbert, Rodney Hurtig, Dick (Kara) Hurtig, Travis (Dara) Leick and Beth Leick; two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Ethan; and four brothers, Art Potter, of Dubuque, Carl Howell, Ronald Howell and Gene Howell, all of Maquoketa, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Rodney.
