Dorothy was born on Feb. 18, 1925 in Hollywood, CA, to Charles Vernon and Elvera Kunigunda Kreuziger Story.
She graduated from George Washington High School, Los Angeles, CA in 1943 after which she drove heavy equipment for the U.S. Navy Department on Terminal Island, CA. Dorothy married Ed Snow from Pueblo, CO in 1945, had one daughter then divorced.
In 1946 she moved to Days Creek, OR with her mother, father and daughter. While living on the farm on Woods Creek Road she she met and married Jarold Rachor in 1948, and they had four children. She had 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Rachor worked as a supervisor in the invoice department for Roseburg Lumber Company from 1972 to 1983.
She went to Umpqua Community College, pursuing an Engineering Program, from 1981 to 1984. At 60 years old she changed jobs at RLC to work the green chain in the plywood mill at night so she could pursue her engineering degree at Umpqua Community College during the day. From 1984 to 1991 she worked for H.A. Andersen Company, headquartered in Portland, OR, as project Engineer helping to build Fred Meyer stores in Roseburg, Klamath Falls, Grants Pass, Medford & Astoria, OR and Chico, CA. While working on the Medford store she did the "tilt-up panel" drawings for the South Medford Fred Meyer Store and the Ernst Home Center.
In 1987 Dorothy earned the desgination of Certified Professional Building Designer. In 1991 she started her own business, Rose Building Design, in Phoenix, OR which she ran until her illness. There are several homes on the hills around Medford which she designed as well as several small business buildings. Her meat & potatoes was the remodel drawings provided for many homes. She also provided a service to contractors by getting drawings through the beurocracy of the city permitting process. For two terms she was the Oregon Chapter President of the American Institute of Building Designers.
Dorothy had served on the Board of Habitat for Humanity, the City of Phoenix Planning Commission, the Jackson County Advisory Commission and the South Umpqua School District Board.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing and genealogy. On her father's side she was a descendant of the Taylor family who came to Virginia in the mid-1600s and who eventually came West on the Oregon Trail to Oregon City, OR. The Story's also came West on the Oregon Trail to Winston, OR.
