Robert Edgar Culbertson was born in Albert Lee, Minn., on March 24, 1921. He was the fourth child of Harvey and Sarah Ann Culbertson. Robert's family moved to Fort Worth when he was 7. He was a student at Lily B. Clayton, McLean Middle School, R.L. Paschal High School, and Texas Wesleyan University. In 1941, he married Hermagean Plangman, his high school sweetheart. They recently celebrated their 67th anniversary.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on an aircraft carrier. Robert worked at General Dynamics and spent more than 50 years in the oil and gas business. He was a member of Arborlawn United Methodist Church. His hobbies included baseball, bowling, horse racing and bridge. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
