James happily married June Daniel in Ironton, Ohio on June 20, 1943. He is survived by her and their children, James (Bonnie) Nichol of California, Julaine (Frank) Paltelki and Christie (Robert) Davis, both of Battle Creek; a daughter-in-law, Jude Nichol of Arizona; grandchildren, Brian and Steven Nichol, Tracy Hodge, Paul Michael Paltelki and Susan Moore; and great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Blowers, Paige and Katie Nichol, Paul Michael Jr. and Grady Paltelki and Braeden and Kailyn Moore. James was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Thomas and Lawrence Nichol; a granddaughter, Pamela Bess; a great-granddaughter, Victoria Clare Paltelki. James was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church, Battle Creek. He and June were former members of the Revelers Dance Club.
Entombment is at at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek, Michigan.
