Her mother (and older sisters) supported the family as stay (corset) maker in Paisley, Scotland and in 1852 came to America with 7 of her children.
The family settled in Brooklyn, New York. Annie and her mother would live there for about 15 years and then moved together to Bozeman, MT to be with Annie's older sister Catherine Boyle Waterman, and her family. They lived on the Waterman farm near Middle Creek. This is where Annie met her husband-to-be Henry Monforton, who had a neighboring ranch. They were married in 1872 when she was 30, and they had 5 children: William H, Catherine A, Mary A, Zoe and John.
Annie died in 1890 when she was only 47.
