Mrs. Mary C. BLACK, longtime resident of Rochester, died at 90 years of age Wednesday at 10:15 p.m. in the Mabel Waddle nursing home, 2112 North Delaware street, Indianapolis.
Mrs. Black was the widow of George BLACK, who was a partner in the Black and Bailey Hardware in Rochester for 19 years until his death Dec. 24, 1943. The Blacks had resided many years at 1014 Monroe street.
Mrs. Black, in failing health for several years, had been residing in Indianapolis where her son, Thomas, lives.
Born in Miami county Sept. 4, 1868, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas BUTLER and had spent most of her life in the Rochester community. She was married Sept. 17, 1893, at Rochester.
Mrs. Black was a member of the Grace Methodist church, Eastern Star and Rebekah lodge. While a Rochester resident, she was most active in local women's affairs, also belonging to the Pythian Sisters, Victoria Reading Circle and Woman's Club.
Surviving are the son, Thomas [BLACK], Indianapolis; one grandson, Thomas [BLACK], Jr., a student at Wabash college; one granddaughter, Mrs. William PURCELL, Princeton, N.J., and numerous nieces and nephews. One son, John [BLACK], preceded her in death in 1918.
