He was the son of Fielding Beams and Hannah Southern. Obit. Larue Co Herald Sep 22, 1898: Mr J.B. Beams died on the 12th and was buried on the 14th in the family graveyard. He was 84 yrs old and was well known throughout the country having been sheriff of the county for a number of years. Mr Beams was a member of the Methodist Church and was a Christian gentleman. He was loved by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed for his generosity and usefullness. The bereaved ones have our sympathy and we know that our loss is his gain.
