Mr. D'Arcangelis was the son of Oreste and Caterina Lupo D'Arcangelis, and grew up in Fort Plain. He served in both the US Navy and the US Army during the Korean and Vietnam eras. He was an active member of the Berlin Brigade at the height of the Berlin Wall crisis, and was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 0491 and the VFW Post 7835 of Grandburh Texas.

Sam chose to give the "Gift of Life" through tissue donation to LifeNet of Virginia, so that the lives of others may be enhanced.
