Jacob Eshleman Warfel was the son of John Warfel b.3/22/1798 and Maria Eshleman Warfel b.10/5/1797. Jacob showed talent as an artist from an early age and took instruction in art from local artist. A friend and mentor to Jacob was the artist Thomas Sully. He painted in oil and water color and worked in Pennsylvania and for a time in Richmond , Virginia. He was not to realize his full potential as his life was cut short when he died of "Consumption" in 1855. He painted mostly portraits and Landscapes. One of his mentors was His portrait of President William Henry Harrison is in the possession of the Lancaster County Historical Society. His paintings are very rare due to his death at an early age.
