Claus Levander passed away Wednesday, April 3, 1936 at the Shogren Rest Home after suffering from an illness for about ten years.
Mr. Levander was born in Boras Vastergotland, Sweden on Jan. 5, 1875 and was at the time of his passing away 71 years of age. In 1896 or when he was 21 years old he immigrated to America, coming to Stevens county. Later he came to Douglas county and has worked on different farms at Herman, Donnelly and Roseau, Minn., most of his time. Since 1924 he made his home with his sister, the late Mrs. Anna Johnson until 1936 when he took sick. Since that time he has stayed at different rest homes until a year and a half ago when he moved to the Shogren Rest Home where the Shogrens have patiently cared for him until he passed away. His only survivors are three sisters in Sweden and the following nieces and nephews, Peter, Harry and Steve Johnson, Mrs. H. M. Hochstaetter, Mrs. Arthur Engstrand and Mrs. George Minor, all of Alexandria.
Mr. Levander was a man with a pleasant personality, always having a smile and a kind word for everyone with whom he had contact.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Apr. 6 from the Engstrom Funeral Home with Rev. C. E. Hansen officiating. The pallbearers were Alfred Lundgren, Andrew Lundgren, Arthur Floding, Ole Oberg, Clifford Anderson and Axel W. Nelson. Interment was made in Kinkead cemetery.
