"A. Judson" or "Judson", as he was commonly known, was wounded in action on January 7, 1863. On that date there were two scouting expeditions along the Rappahannock River. The next summer A.J. participated in the Battle of Gettysburg, while under the command of General John Buford during his famous delaying tactic on July 1, 1863. The 8th Illinois Cavalry participated in many Civil War battles including: Seven Days, Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Brandy Station.
