He served as a Justice of the Peace for Upson County from 1839 to at least 1849. He served as Justice of Inferior Court 16 January 1857 to 1861.
He died 4 July 1886 in Upson County, Georgia. He was buried in the Morgan-Mann-Reeves Cemetery and later moved to the Flint River Church Cemetery at Roland, Upson County, Georgia.
He died intestate (without a Will). Francis J. Reeves was appointed Administrator with the directions "to be recorded, on or before First Monday in March next" dated Sixth day of December One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty Six signed by J.C.
