Clarence was born in Laidley, though living in Kingaroy, when he enlisted in the Army on 29 April 1941 at Gympie.
A member of the 2/26 Infantry Battalion, he was assigned to 27 Infantry Brigade Head Quarter Company.
Leaving Singapore in April 1943 as a member of "F" Force, he slaved on the Thai Burma Railway mostly around the Shimo Sonkurai area.
He contacted Amoebic Dysentery and was hospitalised at Chungkai Hospital, where he passed away.
His body was exhumed in 1946 and reburied in Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.
