Wednesday, former resident dies at home in Quasqueton. James T. Melick died March 1, 1915, 11:30 pm after a few moments illness with heart trouble. He had been afflicted for several years. He was born in Gambier, Ohio, April 29, 1848, and at age 17 came to Quasqueton, since his home. In 1869 he was married to Miss. Mary Ellen Gunn of Newton Township, and they had two children Frank of Elkton, SD, and a daughter who died in infancy. His wife died August 22, 1872 at the age of 24. His second wife was Mary Ellen Sherrets of this place. They have five children, all of whom survive. They are Charles, Mrs. Kittie Johnson, Mrs. Gertie Garrison, Mrs. Ethel Fox, of this place, and Mrs Maude Kimball, of Greene. He was a considerate, kind husband and father, a good neighbor and citizen. The funeral was held on Wednesday at the M. E. church at 3:30 pm with a large attendance. Rev. Kelly conducted the services with Rev. H. Bellman and Rev. C. W. Basham assisting, burial in Greenwood Cemetery. The Pallbearers were A. P. Burrhus Sr. H. L. Boies, C. J. Walter, M. J. Crooks, H. Hoover and C. L. Kimball. Out of town relatives present were Frank Melick, Elkton, SD.; Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Kimball, Greene; Mrs. Anna Turis and son and Will Sherrets, of Waterloo; Mrs. Grace Weigand, Ocheyeden, and Miss. Gladys Irwin of Fayette.
