Mildred M. HeckenluberLewis, 86, died Wednesday, December 7, 2005, at The Gettysburg Hospital, Gettysburg. She was the wife of Dr. Fred Lewis, and was predeceased by her first husband, Robert T. Heckenluber. Born May 30, 1919, in Butler Township, she was the daughter of the late Clair and Marie (Bowers) Taylor. Mildred graduated from Arendtsville High School. She was a self-employed beautician, and also worked for the Arendtsville National Bank and the Bendersville Bank. Prior to her retirement, she served as Executive Director of the Adams County branch of the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Arendtsville. She was active in Meals on Wheels, and served on the Board of Directors of the South Mountain Fairgrounds and the Fairview Cemetery Board. She is survived by a granddaughter, Marti Heckenluber Painter; a great-grandson, Dylan Painter; and two sisters, Doris Daniel of Indio, Calif. and Jean Slaybaugh of Biglerville. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas T. Heckenluber; a grandson, Mark H. Heckenluber; and a brother, Glenn Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 12, at the Zion United Church of Christ, Arendtsville, with the Rev. Kim Blocher officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Arendtsville. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Adams County Branch, 424 E. Middle St., P.O. Box 4535, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
