Korean War Veteran
Born July 29, 1930 to Milton Merritt and Estella Isabelle Miller Ray. Grew up in Fort Wayne; Graduate of Fort Wayne Central High School. Employed by the local Broadway General Electric plant. Served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the gunship U.S.S. Macon from 1949 to 1953. Married in 1954 to Barbara McNutt. Three children - Steven 1955, Sue Ann 1957, David 1958. Drove truck / semi for a local oil company. In 1963 became a sales representative for Sinclair Oil, then in 1966 went to Philips 66. We also had a large rural paper route with around 800 customers. He passed away unexpectedly on May 13, 1969. Things never seemed to be the same afterwords. It deeply affected my Mom, us children and my grandparents. My Grandmother passed away in 1975 never really getting over losing her son.
