Carole was one of those people you just couldn't help but like. Although she had it rough on this earth, she remained a happy person with a very upbeat attitude. It was impossible to be down in the dumps when she was around. Before you'd even realize it, she'd have you giggling right along with her over the smallest things.
Carole attended Kirkersville High School, where she was very happy to be a majorette for the school band.
Carole married Walter Piper in 1955. The couple moved from Outville to Johnstown to begin family life.
She suffered a miscarriage, then went on to have her only daughter Patti in January of 1956. A son, Bill followed in December of 1956. Another son, Marvin Lee was born in 1957. Marvin was born premature, and lived for only two days. Her final child, son Lee was born in July of 1960.
Carole and Walter divorced in 1967, and Carole was left to raise their children on her own. Times were especially tough for her then, but she never shied away from doing what needed to be done.
Determined to successfully raise her children on her own, she was hired to do modeling work for Sears and J.C. Penney. Then in 1974, she went to work for Kaiser Aluminum, where she remained employed until her death.
Carole's favorite things in life were her children, her cats, and helping people; no matter who they were, or whether she knew them or not - if they needed help, she did not hesitate to lend a hand. This was a lady with one big heart in every sense.
Carole was an accomplished organ player, and loved the hymn, "Amazing Grace". She enjoyed housework, and had been discovered by family drop ins to be dressed immaculately, cleaning her house in high heels while her opera music played. But she was as always, the same common, down to earth jokester.
Carole's favorite holiday was Christmas; the entire house would be festooned with decorations; no doubt, adding to the excitement for her children and herself.
Friday nights were reserved as a "Girls Night Out" with her daughter Patti, and roller skating was always on the schedule. She was a fun mother, who always remained young at heart.
Carole's life ended far too soon. She was killed in a car accident in Marion, Ohio. Many hearts were broken the day she went to be with our Lord. We'd lost our happy ray of sunshine.
She is still greatly missed by all who knew and remember her.
Carole's father Carl proceeded her in death. Since Carole's death, she has seen her mother Iva, brother Gene, brother Donald, and sister Betty come to greet her in Glory. What a reunion that had to have been.
On a personal note, I am so glad that I got to spend even a little time in my Aunt Carole's company (but not nearly enough). I miss her so, and sometimes my memories flow back to the sight of her throwing her head back in peals of laughter. How I miss that...
