Wife of Harvey Horn who was a railroad engineer in Chicago before retiring in Sioux Falls. Daughter of Peter and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Eggers. Sister to Velma (Sam) Cross, Ray Eggers, Walter (Daisy) Eggers and Harold (Leora) Eggers. Leona Eggers was born on July 18, 1905 in Lincoln, Iowa. In 1909, the family moved to a farm northeast of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On Feb. 22, 1911, her mother died of Bright's disease at the age of 34 years. At that time, she and her sister and brothers were sent to Gladbrook, Iowa, to be raised by their maternal grandparents, Grandpa and Grandma Theede. In 1918, when she was 13 years old, the five children returned to Sioux Falls to live with their father. During the World War II years, she moved to Napa, California with her first husband, Byron "Shorty" Knudson, who was working in a defense plant. Married on June 18, 1926, the marriage ended in divorce, and Lee returned to Sioux Falls where she worked as the head bookkeeper for K & K Department Store and later for Fry's Cleaners. She was on a bowling team at the Sports Bowl, and also loved to ride horses. On August 5, 1950, Lee married the love of her life, Harvey Horn and lived in Chicago, Illinois, before returning to Sioux Falls when Harvey retired. After his death on October 19, 1957, Lee worked for Scotch Cleaners, and she resided in Sioux Falls for the rest of her life.
