Mr. and Mrs. Sterling H. [A.] Bishop, 26-B Pulaski street, Fort Leonard Wood, have been notified by the War department that their son, Sgt. James Roland Bishop, infantryman (above), has been killed in action in the Italian theater of operations less than a month after his return to combat after having been wounded. Sergeant Bishop was the only child. He was a graduate of SHS and attended Missouri university until his induction in September of 1943, when he reported to Camp Blanding, Florida, for his basic training. He had been in Italy since March, 1944, with Co. "B" of the 133 infantry. The Bishops formerly lived in Springfield, at 1409 West Loren, but have resided in Fort Wood for the past two years where Mr. Bishop is employed by the government.
