George graduated the US Naval Academy in 1910. After serving a one year sea-duty, he resigned his commission on Nov. 13, 1911, left the Navy and joined the Army's Coast Artillery as a 1st LT, the following day. Served 27 years with distinction.
1917- During WWI, Capts. G F Humbert & G P Anderson were tasked with organizing and training American and French troops in the Antiaircraft and Trench Mortar School of the Allied Expeditionary Forces, which later became the model for the Army Antiaircraft Artillery School.
He married Frances Sperry (daughter of Anson Sperry & Emma Bradley). They met in China where Frances' father was a Professor of Pei Yang University.
George & Frances had 4 children: Barbara, Martha, George F., Jr. & Mary Ann.
