Mary Margaret Holt was the first of twelve children born to Thomas Holt and Liona Agnes Caldwell Holt. She died in adolescence.

There seems to be some confusion about her birthdate. Some sources say August 17, 1848. However, her tombstone clearly states the death date as February 3, 1861, aged 12 years 5 months and 3 days. That would indicate a birthdate of August 30 (as per some sources) or 31, rather than 17.
