The Rev. Vernard W. McClanahan, 84, of Fairland died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Major Hospital.
Born on March 26, 1925, in Fayette County, Ky., he was the son of Vernard W. and Betty (Cornish) McClanahan. He married Nora Pigg on Oct. 7, 1944, and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Alice B. McClanahan of Lexington, Ky.; sons, V.W. (wife Kim) McClanahan of Bloomington and Mark (wife, Pam) McClanahan) of Fairland; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray McClanahan, Roy McClanahan and Leonard McClanahan; and a sister, Louise Beck.
The Rev. McClanahan had lived in southern and central Indiana after moving here from Kentucky in 1951.
He served as a minister to the Fairland Baptist Church, retiring in 1993, and also as interim minister for several Baptist churches after retiring.
The Rev. McClanahan graduated from Lafayette High School in Lexington, Ky., and from Georgetown College with a bachelor of arts degree. He also attended Lexington Bible College.
He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
The Rev. McClanahan also was a hunter and fisherman and worked with his father doing mechanical work.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Frank Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
