Mr. Mackman has fought his sickness for six or seven years, and as one of the means by which he hoped to regain health, three years ago when he left the farm, he spent a winter in Colorado, but this means failed and since that time he has been helplessly under the control of his foe. During the struggle he and his family have realized and learned to appreciate above their anticipations the help that has come through the benefits of the Independent Order of Foresters and the Maccacabees.
The immediate friends whom he leaves behind him in the journey of life are his wife and daughter, two brothers, Charles of Yale, and John of Grand Marais, and two sisters, Mrs. O. V. Stephens of Alpena, and Mrs. Geo. Ferguson of Shabbona.
During the last few months of his life his religious convictions and faith became settled and pronounced. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church and did all in his power to acknowledge the Saviour of mankind his own. At the last he took his departure with goodbyes for his friends and with prayer and praises to God.
He passed away on Friday morning, Mar 8th, and the funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church in Yale and the interment made at Elmwood cemetery on Sunday, March 10, Rev. R. O. Lawrason preaching the funeral sermon. The obsequies at the grave were conducted by the Maccabees.
