Francis R. Bourne, Jr.

Francis Rufus Bourne, Jr., 70, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Charleston on Oct. 20, 1929, a son of the late Francis Rufus Bourne and Emilie Payne Bourne.

He was a graduate of Winyah High School and attended The Citadel and the University of South Carolina. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the International Paper Company.

He was a communicant of Prince George, Winyah Episcopal Church and had served his church as a lay leader, vestryman, docent and youth leader. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6444, the Navy Club, Quarter Century Club, and Primetimers. He was the president of Swamp Fox Players. He was a former president and honorary lifetime member of the board of directors of Hospice of Georgetown County Inc. and was a patient volunteer and the 1991 recipient of the President's Award for Hospice.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Sprott Bourne; two sons, Francis R. Bourne III and his wife, Anna, of Palm Bay, Fla., and Joseph Sprott Bourne and his wife, Marilyn, of Midlothian, Va.; four grandchildren, Emily Bourne and Suzanne Bourne, both of Palm Bay, and Joseph Bourne and Elizabeth Bourne, both of Midlothian; and several cousins, including Dr. Wright Sparks Skinner III of Georgetown.

A memorial service will be at 5:30 tonight at Prince George, Winyah Episcopal Church. The Revs. Paul C. Fuener, Tommy H. Tipton and the Very Rev. James C. Fenhagen will officiate.

Inurnment will be in the churchyard.
