ONEONTA — Calvin Lewis Behnke, 65, of 683 Chamberlin Hill Road, Oneonta, died unexpectedly Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City, of a heart attack.

He was born in Middletown, on Feb. 1, 1934, the son of Joseph and Edna (Baker) Behnke.

Calvin was a local dairy farmer all his life. He was very active in farm organizations for years. He helped establish the Roland B. Hill Indian Archeological Museum in Otego and was president of the board of directors for over 20 years. He was always interested in the Boy Scouts and was a Cub Master for many years and also a committeeman until recently. His great loves were family, friends, farming and archeology.

He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Leland Behnke of Highland and a sister, Phyllis Ferguson of Warwick.

At Cal's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. He will be cremated and his ashes kept at the family farm, where the family will have a prayer service at their convenience.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Roland B Hill Museum, 683 Chamberlain Hill Road, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in his memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.
