Lula Belle "Lu" Pate, age 77 of Beardstown, died Monday, September 30, 2013 at her home. She was born May 18, 1936 in Oakland, IL the daughter of Archie and Estell Matheney Grafton. She married Elmer Lee "Pete" Pate on June 16, 1954 in Beardstown and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2007. Surviving is her children Harvey (wife Janet) Pate of Ashland, Marilyn (husband Duane) Hendricker of Beardstown, Connie (husband Bob) Allen of Irvington, KY, and Tammy (husband David) Pratt of Virginia; four grandchildren Brandon (wife Elise) Hendricker of Montgomery, TX, Missy (husband Doug) Szarmach of Valparaiso, IN, Kristen (husband Drew) Petefish, and Ashley (husband Justin) Garner both of Virginia; and four great grandchildren Isabella and Aidan Garner, and Payten and Paxton Petefish. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her twin sister Linda Ayers, and a grandson Ryan Hendricker. Lu graduated from Brown County School in the class of 1954. She later graduated from Flamingo Beauty School in Jacksonville in 1972 and worked as a beautician in Beardstown for many years. She attended Bethel Community Church of the Nazarene. Lu enjoyed working with her flowers and visiting with friends. She had the most joy spending time with her grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10 AM Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Beardstown City Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials have been suggested to Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice.
